The principles of lean six sigma

Six sigma is a systematic methodology that focuses on the key factors that control the performance of a process, regulate it to the best level and keep it at that level.

Lean is a systematic methodology for reducing complexity and launching processes by identifying and eliminating sources of waste in the process, since waste can cause traffic jams.
Lean Six Sigma techniques have been widely adopted by various industries, but 50-70 percent of organizational improvement initiatives fail to reach their best potential. According to Jonathan Gray, President Director of IT management consulting and business services, there are three key principles in real business transformation:

The role of leader who really becomes a role-model to empower employees
Ensure that improvement is always connected by aligning initiatives for business strategy
Create target achievements that can exceed cost reductions based on time and services

However, in applying these three principles to the desired change, there are certainly obstacles that are often encountered.

Leaders must be role-models of change within the organization

Leaders must be an open figure to always learn and keep improving themselves, and create an environment where mistakes are regarded as a good learning. Lean leaders who become role models are able to articulate the evolution of the lean method within the whole organization. In addition, leaders should also focus on developing behavior through situational coaching (on-the-job) and observing in the shop floor or often called gemba.

A team means a group of people responsible with complementary skills, committed to the same goal. But the more senior teams are often regarded as different groups, assuming that the better their performance the better their financial condition. So the common goal becomes biased.

Finding common goals is not an easy thing. Because in reality, the process of business transformation is what will bring the organization to a common goal. Organizations must have a goal to continuously drive performance improvements across value streams and how to create a comfortable working environment for work. This will create performance improvements and environments that apply continuous improvement correctly. For the sake of a common business goal, teams must work together to reduce risk and support each other in implementing improvement initiatives.

Those who successfully make the change well tend to have strong and consistent value in approaching to improve and implement change. The nature of their leadership focuses on long-term impact.
